HOW TO GET YOURSELF WORK EXPERIENCE

Currently studying my HND at college and hoping to get into university if my graded unit goes according to plan however as well as focusing on studying I believe that getting some work experience is just as important and makes you far more employable when you leave college or university. Obviously London, the fashion capital of the UK has the most amazing opportunities but London is so expensive and many internships are unpaid. Living in a small city shouldn't stop you at all. Over the last two years or so I have experience from working at photoshoots, backstages at fashion shows, modelling agencies and now I am interning at an online company in hope that when I graduate I will have some basic knowledge of the industry as well as a degree. So here is my advice on how to gain some sassy work experience, these are all from my personal experience.

1. Use social media - I don't want to bore you all about how amazing social media is nowadays and how its so easy to communicate, we know all that. Use your Twitter to network with local creatives or retailers and PR companies. If they mention that they are doing a shoot or a show in the coming weeks then email them asking if you can help, it is likely that it will be unpaid but it is all about networking and gaining contacts. Many companies now post on Instagram that they are looking for interns or students to undertake a work placement.

2. Business Cards - I would recommend you get yourself some business cards, if you are lucky to get yourself back stage at a fashion show or event then chances are you will get chatting to folk. Business cards are such a simple way for the business to remember you and maybe contact you for an event in the future.

3. Do your research - Many placements or internships ask you to send them over your cv and cover letter, this is your chance to sell yourself and let them know you are the best person for the job. Before sending the email make sure you are sending the email to the correct person, there is nothing worse than a company receiving an email addressed to the wrong person. Research the companies campaigns or collections, it shows that you are interested and impressive to the company it is also a good conversation starter incase things get a little awkward during the interview.

4. Enjoy - My final tip would be to enjoy yourself, if you've worked that hard to bag yourself the placement then have fun when you are there and gain all the experience you can. Any relevant experience is great to add to your CV or job application.

SPORTS WEAR FAVOURITES.

January is the month for fitness isn't it, it is time to ditch the chocolate and lying around watching Netflix and get active! Sports wear is always a hit or a miss for myself but I can't help but notice so many high street stores are bringing out their own sports range which are a fraction of the price compared to Nike & Adidas. New Look and Missguided are proving to be a hit favourite online and these are my favourite pieces from the collections. I love the colours in both of the collections and think they look really expensive with the patterns they've used.

UPDATE// NOVEMBER

So November has been a busy month for myself with loads of college work to complete, ucas application, working, starting an internship and also decorating. So I thought I'd share it all with you lovely lot.

01. College has been non stop the past month or so. With countless presentations, assessments and reports I never thought I'd see the end however everything has been handed in and I can now enjoy a week off before it all starts back again.

02. UCAS applications have already started again. I have had mixed feelings about university for a while now however I have really enjoyed my course at college so definitely want to apply for uni, would only be studying for another two years so it seems kinda stupid to not apply. I am meant to be working on a personal statement right now but literally have no clue how to start.

03. As well as college I am still working at New Look. The Christmas shopping has officially started folks although I am getting a lot more hours so I can't really complain. I also started an internship with a beauty/fashion online company based in Glasgow last week called Unineed. The placement is part of my college course and counts for my main grade at the end of the summer. I really would love to work for an online company in years to come so the placement is giving me plenty of experience and get to drink countless cups of tea all day.

04. With all madness going on I even managed to decorate my room (okay, my dad did) but I had to declutter all junk I have collected over the years. I will probably do a little room tour post later on this week and show you.

What have you been up to this month? Anything interesting?

BRASS NECK CITY

For a few years now I have had a great interest in what Glasgow has to offer fashion wise. I personally can't walk down Buchanan Street without loving someones outfit, Glasgow basically have no boundaries when it comes to good auld fashion. I especially love the amount of amazing vintage/independent stores that we have available in the city. As a retail student studying in Glasgow I love seeing independent businesses doing so well in the area.  So I was absolutely delighted when I heard the news that many of them were going to be coming together to create a fashion show at Hillhead Bookclub later in the month. Basically each store has been asked to design a look based on traditional Glaswegian looks, for example Art School Chic, The Ned etc. The show will be including creations from Granny Would be ProudVintage Guru, We Love to Boogie, Minted & City Retro and Glasgow Vintage Co.

If you are a lover of vintage fashion then I definitely think you come along on Thursday 20th of November at 8pm. I can imagine it would be a lot of fun and I am pretty excited to see what the guys have to offer.

Sound like something you are interested in? Then head over to the wonderful girls at Betty&Bee's Facebook page

SKINCARE//LUSH CLEANSER AND FACE MASKS

Lush are many bloggers and vloggers favourite brand, including myself. I have used Lush for years and love everything about them even down to the service you receive in store. As the colder months are kicking in I thought I would up step up my skin care game.  I first picked up the 9 to 5 cleansing lotion - I love the smell of this product, it contains almonds and orchid which just create a lovely pleasant scent for the morning. I apply this all over my face (avoiding my eyes of course) and just rise off with a warm cloth. I love face mask especially during the winter time as my skin seems to get so dry, probably down to the central heating. I couldn't decide what masks to go for so decided on two Love Lettuce (an exfoliating face mask_ & The Sacred Truth which seem to be keeping my skin in good condition (helps enhance your complexion)

Do you recommend I try any other skincare from Lush?

ADVICE// SURVIVING COLLEGE/UNI

A little different post today but I thought it might help a lot of you who could be studying at college or uni too. If you've followed my blog for a while then you may be aware of my current academic situation I'm currently studying HND Retail Management we study many subjects related to retail not just management like most people presume. Anyway I am in my final year at college and can now apply for 3rd year entry at university. Now university was something that I never really considered however I have actually enjoyed my time at college and would definitely encourage anyone who is a little unsure about university to apply for a college course first. With the final year in college comes the endless amounts of reports, presentations and assessments as well as the graded unit. I thought I'd share with you some tips to survive college or university.

1. Attendance - As tempting as an extra hour in bed might seem I can't stress how important in is to attend your lectures. My college do put all notes on the our website however attending class gives a little more knowledge for reports etc. My attendance in school was basically the opposite which resulted in pretty poor grades so it definitely helps

2. Organising - Most students balance a part time job and education so organising your time is very important. I work an average of 16 hours a week and can usually guarantee a day off a week. This is where I set aside all my college work to do and also plan a few blog posts. I'm starting an internship/work placement in the next few weeks so need to set aside time for that is well, organising is key as they say.

3. Get yourself a diary - We would get a diary in school and I would use it for a week then it would stay in the bottom of my bag for the rest of the year but this year I made sure I invested in a diary to keep track of my college deadlines and my shifts in work too and it is so helpful to keep me of track.

4. Stationary - I love stationary and I can't help but buy cute pens and notepads for starting the college year. Buying yourself some folders and highlighters too are also really helpful to keep your work organised and obviously all pretty looking, yeah I do considered that very important haha.

WISHLIST// AUTUMN EDITION

The nights are getting colder & darker so what better way to spend your nights all cosy in bed with Netflix on with endless cups of tea. My plan for next pay day is to pick up a few autumn essentials. I first seen this dressing gown in Topshop last year but never had a to chance to pick it up so was delighted to see it on the website again. It looks so cosy to wear in the horrible cold mornings I need to get up early for work or college. I'm not much of a fan of UGG boots although their slippers look amazing but the £70 price tag I simply can't justify right now so I'm after a similar pair a lot cheaper. The last item on my autumn wish list has got to be a mug, an initial mug to be exact. I just think they are so cute. I really like the ones from Anthropologie and thought it would look really nice in my Instagram photos, is it really sad that I even consider that? Yes definitely.

NEW LOOK// PURE│COLOUR

Now when Topshop launched their make up back into 2010 I am sure a lot of people, including myself were a little apprehensive however there is no denying that it has been a total success and I bet their products are surely becoming a make up stable in many make up bags.

So when I heard that New Look were launching some make up I was pretty excited to try a few products. The collection PURE│COLOUR launched a weeks ago and ranges from around £5-£2 I decided to give some products a try.

First up is a blusher in Candy Pink £3.99. I have only wore the blusher once but I was really pleased and it gave me a lovely rosy colour to the cheeks.  I love lipliners so was delighted to see an amazing range of colours. I went for the shade Dark Pink as it is similar to the colours that I wear day to day. I would recommend wearing a lip balm underneath it though as I did find them a little drying but for £1.99 you cant really complain. I also picked up a concealer, again I have only worn it once but was pleasantly surprised at how nice it went underneath my eyes. Next time you are in New Look guys definitely check out the make up. I have my eye on a few nail polishes next pay day!

(Please Note: This is not a sponsored post. I am a part time sales advisors at New Look however paid for the make up with my own money and only received staff discount on the products)

Fashion//Fashion Favourites

Thought I'd share with you a few of my fashion favourites of the last month. I bought a pack of 3 Asos T-shirt for £24 a couple of months ago and I'm so glad I did. I wear them all pretty once a week, usually just with jeans and a necklace which brings me onto my second item, my Vivienne Westwood necklace. I got it for my birthday last year and didn't really wear it for a few months but I'm loving it so much again. Next up are a pair of shoes from New Look i started working in there in July and the staff discount is 50% so as you can imagine my whole wardrobe is slowing becoming a New Look stock room, anyway I love these shoes and think the sliver viable zip adds something a little different compared to my other black shoes. Last up are my new glasses, I have the worse eyesight so when I got my saas payment I decided to buy some new glasses and decided on these ones. Although they are proscription i sometimes wear them just to add to my outfit, sad eh?

HAUL // BARCELONA MAKE UP

As some of you may know I went away to Barcelona at the end of July. I had an incredible time and obviously managed to get some shopping in too. The first place was obviously Duty Free. I already had in mind what I was going to buy so was over the moon to find that YSL Parisienne was on offer with a free body lotion with it. I've mentioned in a post before but I love perfume but always find ysl really expensive in stores so snapped up the opportunity in Duty Free. When we arrived in Barcelona we went around our local shopping centre and came across Sephora, I've never been to Sephora before and they've just recently started shipping to the UK so I was like a kid in a sweet shop when I was looking around. I first bought a powder and Sephora brush and decided to see how much money I had left at the end of my holiday and bought Make Up Forever HD foundation (oh my god it's absolutely amazing, never going back!) And finally I bought these lipsticks on the plane home. Four Rimmel lipsticks for £9.60, considering one usually retails for £5.49 I think I got myself a bargain, my favourite one is 08, perfect nude lipstick!

OOTD // 12.08.14

Kimino - H&M
Playsuit - H&M
Sunglasses - River Island
Boots - New Look
Hat - H&M

Stylish Kids has had a little makeover. My style over the last month has changed so I thought it was only fair that my blog changed too. The weather today is terrible so this outfit is from last week - Cheating I know.
I feel a little bit stuck with my blog right now but I am so determined to put in a lot more effort with it and focus more on personal style and fashion (however I do have a beauty post coming up haha)

Hope you are all well!

A LONG OVERDUE UPDATE

I haven't posted in over a month and I'm so gutted I have not being able to as I had so many ideas for over summer but I managed to get myself a new job at New Look. It all happened so fast as I basically handed my cv, bagged myself an interview that night and got a call saying I got the job a day later. I'm really enjoying myself the now although I was pretty nervous at the start I am getting a lot more confident and looking forward to learning loads of new things (if you didn't know I study retail management at college so it is great to get a real insight into the industry). Obviously for the past two weeks or so Glasgow held the commonwealth I didn't have any tickets myself and was on holiday for the majority of it but can safely say town was crazy for two weeks but it was pretty nice to see.

Apart from working I also managed to jet away to Barcelona for a couple of days at the end of July. I have loads of ootd pictures and also a haul to write up about my time there but I absolutely loved it and would definitely go back. It's an absolute beautiful city and I am so glad we got to pack so much into our four days there.

And finally yesterday I celebrated my 20th birthday. I'm no longer a teenager, it's so strange. I'm working all this week so haven't had a proper chance to properly celebrate but I have arranged a night out with my friends at the weekend which shall be fun.

So I have spent my summer basically working, eating tapas & drinking sangria. Not too bad I'd say. What did you get up to this Summer? I've going to getting myself into a wee routine with the good old blog so keep a look out this week and follow on me  twitter and blog lovin for updates.

YOUTUBE CULTURE // MY OPINION

I first discovered the beauty & fashion community on Youtube and blogging about five years ago when the likes of lollipop26, juicystar07 and Charlieissocoolike were just starting their own videos. I loved the idea of people making videos on topics which can sometimes be considered as shallow and unskilled to an average person on the street however I had an interest in it all from a very young age so to be able to share ideas with people who had similar interests was great, it was own little secret world I would get home from school and watch videos on 'what's in my bag tag' 'current favourite' and my personal favourite when I was younger the famous 'make up collection'. The last couple of years we have seen a complete change in the way we communicate and perceive the internet it was once seen as a place for online games, email and online shopping but now has become a main source of income for many people. Due to traditional media like magazines and newspapers it is a lot more accepted to have a career as a blogger or a youtuber.

I remember back in Intermediate 2 Business Management we were allowed 10 minutes free time on the internet I had spent the night before scrolling through a blog I had found online so straight away logged back onto my blogger account and started reading it again - that blog was Zoella. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last 12 months then you'll be completely aware of the stardom and fame that she has received but how much is too much? An all expenses paid trip to America, a shopping spree at Topshop, a group of screaming girls who have travelled thousands of miles to meet you or an invite to the BAFTAS.

Within the space of a year or so Zoe has gained over 4 million subscribers - crazy I know! However the question that I wanna know is do we actually know these youtubers? The answer is no. Just like everyone else youtubers can decide what they want to show you online. Now I am not trying say that they are all fake or pretending to be someone they are not but they are not going to be 100% honest with you. Are you 100% honest with everyone you meet?Probably not. Everyone is different around certain people for example your parents, your friends, teachers, bosses even your granny, it's natural and this is what I am trying to get at. These people are admired by many girls (and boys) all over the world but they are giving you a filtered version of themselves, I am not saying this is a bad thing but I think many of us viewers put the youtubers on a huge platform  where they are looked upon to be so perfect and amazing when in fact they are not, no one is.
Every video that goes into your subscription box is given you a tiny bit more of an insight into their lives and in doing so you are compiling an image of someone who you idolise shall we say but it is just an edited version of themselves and that is so important to remember.
The media are famous for it too they put certain celebrities on massive pedestal for a number of months, years even but within a matter of minutes they are dropped like a hot potato. It wasn't so long ago that Cheryl Cole was on every single celebrity magazine, gossip site and tabloid newspaper and I will admit it, I loved her. If Heat magazine were to mention that Cheryl wore a certain foundation I most likely went out and bought it. I spent ages last week googling what lipstick Kylie Jenner wears because I wanted to have that famous nude lip colour she has been wearing recently. But the difference is that I don't admire these people as deep down I know that they are only showing you want you want to see.

In a completely non hipster way I would love to go back to when Youtube wasn't so mainstream and my mum had absolutely no idea of who Zalfie were but I know myself that it is never going to happen, I'd be foolish to think so. Although I would love the relationship between the viewer and the creator to come a little closer together and for people to realise that they are ONLY people who post on the internet.

I'LL BE LOVIN' .....APPLEJUICE!

I am a total perfume junkie. The highlight of a holiday for me is the shopping spree in Duty Free - unfortunately I take after my mum in the perfume obsession and have a very expensive taste in them. Champagne lifestyle, lemonade wages as they say. My favourites are Miss Dior, Chanel Chance and YSL Parisienne if any of you were interested.  I was watching BeautyCrush on Youtube a few weeks ago and she mentioned that she picked up a Zara perfume called Applejuice.  I have never really smelled the perfumes in Zara before but when she said that it smelled similar to Chanel Chance I definitely had to pick a bottle up, or smell it at least.  I am so bad at describing scents but it is a very fresh and ladylike, perfect so perfect for everyday.  Now is it like Chanel? I totally get the Chanel comparison and it is similar but don't be expecting wonderful things as the bottle is only £5.99 but it is a great bottle to carry in your handbag, and you won't moan if a girl asks to borrow some in the toilet on a nightout. We have all been there eh?

NEW HURR PRODUCTS

I recently had a little splurge a few hair goodies which I'd thought I would say with you all.  My hair routine has changed dramatically. I am now using heat on my hair which I never have before as I am now usually a diffuser & omg what a difference it's making to my life, seriously!

The first product is a little repurchase from the KeraCare range. I cannot tell you all enough how amazing this brand is. If you have afro/Caribbean hair then you need to try the range out. The Twist & Define cream is amazing and perfect for defining your curls (duh) I buy my tub in Sallys Salon Services for around £7. When I was in Sallys I also noticed the Palmers - Restoring Conditioner I am a huge lover of Palmers products (their fake tan is my absolute favourite ) and I have been recommended their hair products in the past so thought I would give it ago and I am so glad I did, I use the product about 2-3 times a week focusing on my ends I leave it on for about 6 minutes then rise with cold water - that part isn't enjoyable, trust me but rising with cold water apparently reduces frizz. What I love most about the product is the price I can not remember exactly but it is definitely wasn't more that £4. Moving onto hair oils now they seem to have gotten really popular over the last few years the hype over Moroccan oil was crazy eh? I picked the TRESemme Liquid Gold Argan Oil one up in Boots for £5,99 so far I can't really say I am impressed like I haven't noticed a difference if I am totally honest I must prefer the Organix one. My final product was by VO5 the Nourish My Shine Miracle Mist the product aims to 'Give you lightweight moisturisation, improve manageability, help protect against heat damage and leave hair smooth, soft and with a healthy shine' which I can totally see happening however the smell of the product is so overpowering which I really cant stand as I think it sometimes take over the power of your perfume.

What are your favourite hair products right now?

GET THE LOOK - FRIENDS

Friends came onto our TV screens all the way back in 1994 - I was just over a month old when the first episode aired. Over the ten years that the show was on it has given us amazing quotes such as 'How you doin ? 'OMG MY GOD' and my personal favourite 'WE WERE ON A BREAK!'. It is safe to say that Friends was a cult classic in the 90s. Yesterday marked the ten year anniversary of the final episode  Can you believe it? In honour of the brilliant TV show I have put together a special  'Get The Look' post of the three girls.

Rachel Green

Rachel was probably my favourite character in the show. C'mon there is a haircut named after her. Her style is the typical 90s style, mom jeans, pastel clothing and leather which is still so relevant today. The look that I made for Rachel is definitely something I would wear. The mom jeans are a complete essential in my wardrobe right now and the cropped top is super cute as well and a great way to bring a little bit of a girly vibe to a boyish outfit. I paired the outfit with an amazing leather jacket from Zara and finally a pair of classic low cut Converse.

Phoebe Buffay

Phoebe was another brilliant character too.  I loved her how unique and quirky she was.  She was definitely the most individual and basically made the boho style a thing before it was one. Her style was very colourful, personally not something I would wear but when I watch the episodes I do see a great individual style. Her personality was my favourite out of them all. I found this summer dress with an amazing print, definitely something Phoebe would wear. I paired it with simple shoes from New Look and finished off with a dark denim jacket

Monica Geller

Personally Monica was my least favourite character. I just found her very boring and blah. Her style definitely matured over the seasons and she began to dress very feminine. The outfit I put together for her is very simple and very Monica. The t-shirt and jeans are very basic and classic for a wardrobe. I finished the outfit off with sandals which are so popular atm from Topshop and the necklace is also from there too.

Who was your favourite character and why?

OOTD // I NEED A WARDROBE REVAMP

   Blazer- New Look.
Top - Topshop
        Jeans - Ebay (I think)
       Boots - River Island.

Quick post of what I wore to college today. I have noticed that my outfits are so similar on here. I promise I do own more I just seem to wear the same clothes all the time. I am going shopping   tomorrow (thats what student loans are for right?) I have a bit of a mixed opinion on shops right now I have an idea of what I want to buy but go into town and hate everything, I am hoping to pick up some basics & some spring clothes - Bet I come back with something black.

SOME NEW THINGS

Just a quick post of what I have picked up over the last few weeks. My favourite item has to be the FLORAL RIVER ISLAND SHIRT. I seen this in my local River Island recently and had to try it on. I don't know why I love it so much, I think it looks like something AA would sell and it is perfect for wanting to make an effort but not too much, if you get me.(Although it does kind of remind me of an uniform you would wear in an Australian cafe haha.) The next item I picked up was a few weeks back which were the H&M BLACK LEATHER SHORTS  I still love the sports luxe trend that was hugely popular last year and seen these in passing a while ago but couldn't stop thinking about them so went back and picked them up. The wee bargain item I snapped up were from River Island I never thought I would be buying myself pink boots, I am totally not a pink wearing kind of person but I seen these on the River Island website ages ago for £45 but didn't want to spend that much on an item that I could only wear with certain clothes so I was so happy to find them in the sale for £15. Sadly no link but definitely try in store, you might be lucky!

OOTD - H&M I LOVE YOU

(Top - Topshop. Jeans - River Island.  Shoes - Internationale. Jacket - H&M.

This is what I wore yesterday I didn't do anything exciting (food shopping pretty much) I have wanted a bomber jacket for a while and fell in love with the Topshop one but really did not think it was worth £55. I was amazed to find this one in H&M for £19.99.  I am loving H&M at the moment and think they are very reasonably priced.

Anyone got anything planned for the bank holiday weekend?
