Student Finance - TV Licence

As a student I am always trying my best to save money I am forever using my student discount in shops or buying the cheaper brand when out shopping; every little bit helps as they say.  I recently came across a fantastic campaign for Scottish students which allows us to have a little extra cash for the summer months.

Moving away for uni or college is a thing many of us do and although you are away from your parents and experiencing the 'student life' there are loads of responsibilities heading your way. One of them is organising your finances this includes getting your own TV licence which costs £145.50 although it does sound like a blow to your bank account it is vital that you take it out or risk getting a fine up to £1000. Now with the academic year ending soon and most of us packing up to head home for the summer there is one thing you should check out before you leave.

If you are currently a student who purchased a TV licence at the start of the academic year and were living in either halls or rented accommodation and are heading back home to a licensed address then you are eligible to claim a refund for the final unused quarter, worth £36.37. This is a fantastic thing for students and something I was completely unaware of beforehand.  With an extra bit of cash in your pocket you could celebrate end of exams with some friends, buy that dress you were after a few weeks ago or even just put it into your bank for your holiday. Whatever you decide to do it is a great thing that all students should be aware of.

To arrange a refund, or for further information, simply visit: www.tvlicensing.co.uk/studentinfo, or call TV Licensing on 0300 790 6090.
